a bit about
Sophie Lee Bennett…
(Any pronouns) is a director, producer, and writer who has been published in several literary magazines and has written/directed two award winning short films. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but relocated to Seattle with her family in high school. After not encountering a single vampire during her time in Washington State, Sophie moved to NYC and eventually graduated with a BFA from Tisch, School of the Arts at NYU with a minor in producing.
Throughout her career, they have dabbled in all aspects of film and has a passion for writing as well as directing. Sophie’s specifically interested in stories that tackle queerness, family dynamics, and mental health regardless of the genre. Ultimately, she seeks to infuse all of her projects with thought-provoking narratives and authentic portrayals of characters.
Sophie’s story ‘No Smoeking’ was published in the 95th issue of 34th Parallel Literary Magazine and her story ‘Best’ was published in the July 2022 issue of Litro Magazine. She’s also written on projects such as the web series "Strings Attached" that won Best Web Series at Top Shorts Film Festival and Best Comedy Short at the Los Angeles Film Awards (LAFA). She wrote and directed the short "Transformations," which was picked as Best Experimental film at the Top Shorts Film Festival and screened at Wicked Queer Film Festival.
Sophie also has a Middle Grade Novel in progress called Welly & The Majestics.
Her short film “A Neighborhood Away” screened at East Village Queer Film Festival in August 2022 and at New York Shorts Film Festival in November 2022.
In her spare time Sophie is a wizard at video games, Mac and Cheese from the box and karaoke.
